At first,every african person who heard of the term operation or surgery,they would get freakish.Actually i had never thought that at one time it would be me in the surgery room.Infact it would be something embarrassing as a perianal surgery.
At one time i felt this pain in my anal area and thought it was haemmoroids.Even went ahead and bought some medications for that specific thought of disease.It was a hectic week,couldnt walk,couldnt eat the way i used to just because of anal pain.
Then after a while,i decided to visit the hospital.Actually i was in voi,taita tavetta county and had to go all the way to Mombasa.It was hectic that i had to use public means of transportation to reaching my destination.The whole scenario of me being in the matatu was funny and so embarrasing since i had to pile up my clothes and wrap them up in a leso which i used to sit on.
I know people judged,but one thought ran up my mind.Maybe they were thinking im gay and everything went horribly bad when trying to make out.That thought killed me.
what is perianal abless
So i reached the hospital and went straight to the doctor i had booked an appointment with.
"son you have perianl abless and we need to do an operation as fast as possible".Mind you i was sitted in a rather funny manner.I was booked for the operation at exactly 5.00pm,so i was taken to my ward SP male No9 at Aga Khan hospital.
4:20pm...I was settled in my room and decided to call my parents who at that time i knew they were still in work.My dad was in kilifi so i thought i would start by calling my mom first.I never thought the word operation would sound so disturbing,just before 5pm my mom had arrived and informed everyone in the family whatsapp group of what was going on.After a while my doctor came in:
"we have rescheduled this operation for tomorrow at exactly 10am since the surgery room is fully booked for today".
So i had to spend the first night in the hospital.My mom went home and was left alone at the hospital.This was the third day i was spending without defeaciating so i was rather uncomfortable.Food was offered but i didnt even enjoy because of my state,but i had to eat since before entering the procedure room you had to pass a condition of 6hours fasting.That night i had to sit with nurses changing medicinal drips to try and reduce the pain i was in.
7:00am Tuesday,i tried to visit the loo.After 30 min of pure pain i "dropped the bomb" just a bomb and was done since i felt like fainting.I lingered around the room waiting for time to face the knife.My first procedure doctor arrived at 8:15am and i signed the confidentiality papers and infact was made to choose between numbness and half death as it was called.Who ever wants to pass through a phase of not knowing whats going to happen so i chose the numbness not knowing how painful it would turn out to be.My mom arrived just minutes to 9am.We stayed for an hour and i had to go.She felt like crying i could see but i assured her it was nothing and i would be strong.
Its crazy how they push you on a wheelchair on the walkways just naked with a cloth like dress just put on.I never minded.At the operating block i had to walk shoe-less,so many protocols.So this operation involved 3 doctors and 2 lady nurses.
SURGERY ROOM;
It had this sweet fragrance and sweet air,lots of lights from bulbs.No openings and a large screen at the side that i had later learned it was heart scale projection.The machines inside were so incredible.So i was on the surgery bed,it had all these comfortable positions.I laid there facing my left hand direction so that they could inject numb syrup i guess thats whats its called.Woah i just wished i didnt choose that option.I couldnt bear the syringes piercing at my spinal cord then electricity like shots run down my feet and i was numb but alive.I was placed in a delivery position and the operation started(no much details here because its so embarassing) I saw a knife,pump like material that was used to suck the puss then later on stitched.Its incredible how they come up with all these sorts of experiments on bodies.After exactly 2 hours i was done and stitched up.Then taken to this recovery room where i stayed for an hour.I was then taken downstairs to my room and had to stay on recovery mode in the hospital for 3 more days.Later on when the numbness had gone i came to realise i had a pad on my anal .
PART ¡¡¡
Wednesday,6am
I had this paining urge to defeaciate in which i couldnt since i had a pad on my butt.So i had to persevere till i couldnt hold it no more,i called the nurse and requested her to remove it.She at first refused since it was an operation that may cause problems.I managed to convince her to remove the pad not knowing how painful it was.I had 3 different bandages,(you probably think i would cry but i managed to stay put)I went to defeaciate and it was smooth but only with blood stains.Was in recovery mode for two months,going through therapy,walking exercises etc.
Next time someone suffers from this am able to couch him/her through the recovery process.Thanks to the Aga Khan surgery room 2019 for their assistance and hospitality.
